Cadet Airman Applegate Achieves Honor Pup Award

Squadron 45 Civil Air Patrol March ARB is proud to announce that Cadet Airman Chris Applegate has been presented the Holland M. Smith Memorial Award.  Cadet Airman Applegate attended the 10 day Devil Pups Youth Citizenship Development Program at Camp Pendleton this June.  During the 10 day stay at the Marine Corps camp, Cadet Airman Applegate distinguished himself as the "best of the best" out of over 180 participants.
The Devil Pups Citizenship Program began in 1954.  Since then over 44,000 youth, ages 14-17, have gone through the program.  Devil Pups live in actual Marine Corps quarters, comply with Marine Corps hours, regulations and eat Marine Corps food.  They participate in running and conditioning exercises, first aid, jumping into water from a 35 foot tower, a bivouac, swimming and close order drill.  As available, they are allowed to observe Marines firing weapons, tank infantry tactics, field fortification attacks, combat in-towns and Boot Camp Graduation.  Finally they attend lectures on the danger of drug and alcohol abuse as well as the value of leadership.

We congratulate Cadet Airman Chris Applegate on his award, distinguishing himself, and bringing credit to our Squadron.
